Registration (Now Open)
VIMUNC does not use a points total system to grant individual awards. Instead, awards are given to delegates based upon their impact on committee. This impact can be derived from the creativity of their legislation, practicality of their solutions, strength of oration, leadership, and the depth of their position papers in addition to other aspects. The general outline is the same, but contact your chair before committee to see if they have any unique criteria they want to be satisfied in committee.
The awards that are given out are as such:
First Place: Best Delegation
Second Place: Outstanding Delegation
Third Place: Honorable Delegation
Fourth Place: Verbal Commendation
School Awards
School delegation awards will be given on the basis of overall school performance. Awards will be determined based off of a ratio system. Schools will be eligible for small delegation awards with a minimum of five delegates, and will be eligible for large delegation awards with a minimum of twenty delegates.
Additionally, high school teams will be eligible for the Scott Stone Diplomacy Award. The award is named after the late Scott Stone - a beloved mentor, sponsor, and friend. He was kind and caring, smart and funny. Whether it was coming out to many of Langley's sporting events, chaperoning on MUN trips, or giving students coffee in his Physics class, he truly valued those around him. After working as a lawyer for thirty years, Mr. Stone retried to become a teacher in order to have a greater impact on us, the students. He will be missed dearly, and it is our honor to present the Scott Stone Diplomacy Award in his name.
Middle School teams will be eligible for the following delegation awards:
Position Papers
Position papers are required in order for a delegation to be considered for an award. They should be submitted to your committee chair at the start of the conference. VIMUNC realizes that different schools have different ways of writing position papers and will be flexible in grading them.
Laptops and Electronics
A laptop or a phone is requires to attend VIMUNC VIII due to its online format.
Plagiarism
Any form of plagiarism found in position papers, working papers or other elements of debate will lead to the violating delegate's immediate disqualification from any award and notification of the offense to his/her school sponsor. In the most serious cases, schools may be disqualified from delegation awards.
Pre-written legislation (written before the first committee session) is not allowed. Delegates are, however, allowed to work on legislation anytime after their first committee session, including outside of the conference.
Behavior
Western Business Attire is required. However, some special committees will allow (or even recommend) attire appropriate for their characters and/or time period. Religious headdresses or coverings are permissible.
Bullying will not be tolerated. Offending delegates will be disqualified from awards. In the most serious cases, an offending delegate may be asked to leave.
Other behaviors that disrupt the sanctity of debate may incur appropriate consequences.
- Priority (Early) Registration (to be included in the first round of Country Assignments) will end on January 15th at midnight. School fees for Priority Registration will be waived and it is $10 per delegate.
- Regular Registration will end on February 26th at midnight, or when VIMUNC has reached full capacity. Delegation Fees for Regular Registration will be $15 per school and $10 per delegate.
- To qualify for a school award, a delegation must have at least 5 delegates. Schools that bring less than 5 delegates do not have to pay the school fee.
- Fees should be made payable to Langley High School and sent via check to Jennifer Stocks at Langley High School (Langley High School, 6520 Georgetown Pike, McLean, VA 22101).
- Regular Registration should be postmarked no later than February 26th.
- Final changes to delegations must be completed by February 26th to avoid charge. Email all requests at [email protected].
- Delegate Fees should be turned in to the conference by February 15th. If there is an issue with this date for your club, please email [email protected]
